Orange is the New Black

For years, creating a tv show that is entirely based on life in prison has not seem to take with producers. It might be that they considered it the holy grail, or that the audience would not understand it. Well thankfully, Netflix took a chance with this tv show and i have to applaud them for that.

Orange is the new black is brought to us by Weeds creator Jenji Kohan and delivers on the motifs attendant to the ironic offender tale, but with considerably more depth and nuance this time around. Based on the memoir Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison by Piper Kerman, the series' lead protagonist is Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), a staple in the Park Slope artisanal bath products business who lives with her minimally exceptional fiancĂ© Larry Bloom (an earnestly repellent Jason Biggs). The orange in this case refers to the standard-issue prison jumpsuit that one new New York woman must hop into after she's hauled in for a crime she committed 10 years ago, back when she was a wild-child, post-college lesbian.

Despite taking place in a scary prison, Orange is the New Black has tons of heart and humor, which it uses as its backbone to set up drama both light and heavy. You'll care about these characters instantly and accept their strengths and weaknesses. Even though it's written from a female point of view, it shouldn't be a problem for men to enjoy (and not just because of boobiez). It's dramedy in every sense of that made-up word; There are serious stakes but it's funny enough that it won't get you totally down.

Should you watch it?
Definitely... I personally can't wait for season 2.. Its awesome.

Under the Dome - MUST WATCH

It is my usual custom to wait four episodes to give an opinion concerning a tv show. But sometimes, there is that show that is too good to ignore and has too much promise from the first few episodes.

Enter Under the Dome, CBS' new release and based on the Steven King novel. The citizens of Chester's Mill suddenly find themselves trapped by an invisible barrier, they must live ... "Under the Dome." (cue suspense music)

The invisible barrier stops anything that tries to make it beyond the city border. In addition to losing all contact with the outside world, the small town has lost electricity, telephone lines and they are at the mercy of each other. Strange things start to happen Under the Dome.

Imagine being trapped under a dome in your town. Imagine being unable to escape the people you hate, or not having the Internet, or having to share space with killers like Dale "Barbie" Barbara (Mike Vogel), who accidentally took the life of Peter Shemway (R. Keith Harris) in episode 1.
There's no way this isn't a recipe for disaster -- or more murder (I hope).

This one is a must watch, for those plotters and problem solvers. I'll love to see who can navigate a way out of the Dome.

P.S. the scene where the done slits the cow in half, "priceless"

Perception is back.

The nutty professor Dr Daniel Pierce, returned for a second season in the sun and is still as crazy as his first season. Although the season kicks of with Daniel seemingly in control and in Love with his ex Therapist, some strange sides effects force him out of his meds and the hallucination starts all over again. How will he cope this time? Will he have another break down? I'm intrigued to watch him and his attempts to solve cases with his crazy mind.

Elsewhere we are introduced to Scott, Kate's soon to be ex husband. It is obvious he transferred to be closer to kate and try to win her back. My issue is that i still feel Kate is in love with the nutty professor. Lets see if i am right.

This is a good series to watch, If you are cool enough to embrace the crazy

Twisted - 4 Episode Test

ABC family knows how to bring the drama and after 4 episodes, Twisted stands out as the best new thing coming out of ABC. This tv series has everything, drama, shocking truths, and just the right amount of suspense to keep you guessing and impatiently waiting for the next episode to come around.

Danny Dessai is a sixteen year old kid who returns to his hometown after serving time in juvy for killing his aunt when he was 11. He is just settling when another murder occurs in the city and everyone thinks he did it. The question is did he or did he not?

I personally think he didn't do it, maybe because i feel sorry for him, and even though everything points to him doing it, i still think this show has many questions to answer.

I really recommend this show cos i think it has a great future and the writing is exceptional.

Watch and tell me what you think

Graceland - 4 Episodes Test

Graceland is like The Real World: Secret Agents! Undercover agents from different branches of law enforcement (FBI, CIA, DEA, etc.) live together in a beach house where they bust bad guys and work on their tans. Part comedy, part police drama, this series from White Collar creator Jeff Eastin is looking in good form to be USA's next hit.

Four Episodes in, Graceland has been able to keep the story alive, bringing together pieces to form a captivating tv show. One well worth watching.

After the fourth episode, i think Graceland is its way to greater things and is a good addition to your list of tv shows.

Alice Fredenham - Liquid Gold

Britain's got talent is over but while it was on it introduced the world to someone i feel is one of the best singers i've ever had the pleasure to listen to.

Alice Fredenham has an amazing talent, one of the very few of her kind. In Simon Cowell's words, "She could sing the phone book."

She sounds like a mixture of Amy Whinehouse, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and beautiful velvet.
I could listen to her sing all night. And though she didn't even make the final due to her slip up in the semi's, i believe she would have a great career and i hope someone gives her the chance to.(Simon i'm referring to you...)

I'll leave you with some of her work and let you decide if you think she's got the goods.

Paul Thomas Mitchell Leaves His mark, Plus Other Great Auditions on AGT

America's got talent came back for episode 2 of season 8 last night and brought with them some amazing talent to showcase for the world. Here are some of my personal favorites from that 2hr episode.

Paul Thomas Mitchell
After a hard upbringing with alcohol and drug-addicted parents and being abandoned by his mother the 20-year-old singer couldn't help but let his emotions boil over on the AGT stage. He put all the pain into his rendition of an original song called "My Life" causing the judges to feel his pain and heap praises on the young lad.
Mel B succinctly summed up the entire audition by saying “I think you just touched not just us, but the whole of America.”
Watch Paul's amazing performance..

D'angelo and Amanda/ Ruby and Jonas

Every good show need a little bit of sibling rivalry and AGT played this one really nicely pitching D'angelo against his lil sister Ruby. Even though i lean slightly to D & A due to the humor in their performance, i must say that Ruby and Jonas are really awesome as well. Well, you decide...

Megan Piphus

In my humble opinion as always, i think she should drop the puppets and get that recording contract but then that's what makes this act all the special, beauty and the puppets (which shows that ventriloquism isn't a thing for pedophiles...) and that amazing range... you go on girl

Collins Key
UHHH Magic... 16 year old Collins Key performed a trick that still makes me wonder how it was done. Except the judges were in on it that was an impossible act really. But for a 16 year old that was a great performance. And you can tell it meant a lot to him to pull that off...

Jonathan Allen
You got to love a sad story, one of pain and rejection. Every show tries to use stories like Jonathan's to capture the hearts of the public and AGT did a great job of this. Take nothing away from Jonathan, he is an amazing singer, his story however makes it all the more appealing. I hope he goes far

Travis Pratt
LOVE, LOVE, Crazy Love.... i loved this audition for all the right reasons, his voice, his love story and of course the proposal. Howie asked if he was the one hitting those notes, and his brilliant reply.. "All day"
Travis is a jewel in my opinion and i'm rooting for him to succeed.

It's just the second episode and we are having so much already, looking forward to more exceptional talents.

TV series and the last six months

It has been a while i've been here, and oh i missed it. Been too busy with other things but its good to be back fully this time ( i hope).
Although i've been missing in action here, i never stopped being an addict and watching as many good tv shows as i could lay my hands on. The last year in tv shows has been an awesome blend of mind blowing episodes and extremely breathtaking season finales (i see you there Scandal, Revenge, Arrow.....).
Also some new and exciting prospects have come up. Let me share with you some of the new shows i have been invested in this year.

House of Cards - Netflix

I love politics and i love to follow the games involved. House of cards does an absolutely brilliant job of telling stories of betrayal, regret, mistakes, control etc all revolving over what is the political scene in the US. If you love politics, join Francis Underwood on his quest to play the game and win.

Da Vinci's Demons - Fox/Starz

What i really love about this show is the story telling. It takes some of the weirdest stories and some true stories about Leonardo Da Vinci and creates a fictional masterpiece. This is one show that makes you want to pay attention because if you miss something you might find yourself lost.

Orphan Black - BBC America

Someone asked me, what do you love most about orphan black and i said Tatiana Maslany, Tatiana Maslany, Tatiana MASLANY!!! I really never quite believed that a show about clones will be so good that i can confidently say it is one of the best tv shows in 2013. It has everything, sex appeal, quirkiness, weirdness (Felix i mean you...) and just the right amount of suspense to make it such a wonderful new show.

Hannibal - NBC

This one is still fresh and not so yummy (if you think that its about people eating people) but it still stands out as one of the best thing to happen to tv shows this year. Good casting, creative writing (sometimes too creative), a bit slow at times but it compensates with a perfect blend of suspense and thrill. Great one to watch.

The Americans - FX
If i were to choose my favorite new show in 2013, the americans would be right up there in contention. I always love a good amount of drama attached to every show and thats what this show does so brilliantly. Extremely great cast, good amounts of suspense, and the sex appeal adds up to make this one of the outstanding ones of 2013.

I'll leave you with these ones for now while i scamper about looking for more new shows to devour. Notable mentions however include, Rectify, Save me, Bates motel and Broadchurch. Keep your fingers crossed, I may just cover them in my next piece.

Till later......
